Our Family Page
My husband, David, and I homeschool our precious two children, Megan and Ian. We are now going into our 11th year homeschooling.
As mentioned on our home page, we live in the beautiful country hills of Indiana. It is such a wonderful place to raise and homeschool our children. Our country property has a pond, some woods, and lots of beautiful rolling hills. You can imagine what a science haven this place is. The kids absolutely love it out here.
Our biggest reason for homeschooling is...our children! We felt in our hearts that our children would receive the best possible education at home, where the curriculum used could be tailored to each child's learning style, and we could proceed at a pace that works for them individually. Also, in the home, children can be raised with morals and values with consistent positive reinforcement and encouragement without being undermined by outside influences.
Working with Megan and Ian has been the biggest blessing in our lives. They are God's biggest gifts to us and we have simply chosen to raise them for Him. We have a lot of fun together and the children learn so much each and every day, whether we spend time on structured curriculum, whether it's helping mom and dad with household chores and errands, or weather they are working on their own interests (Megan enjoys lepidoptera studies and photography; Ian enjoys chess and computers) The children are learning all the time.
Mom and Dad are very involved in the kids' extra-curricular activities. With Ian's Boy Scouts, Dad is an adult leader and mom is treasurer for the troop. Mom takes the kids to Karate twice and week and enjoys watching their progress. Dad takes Megan on her travels around the U.S.for her butterfly projects and field trips, and Ian to his various chess tournaments. Mom and Megan have started Hearts of Giving Ministry to knit/crochet blankets for less fortunate children world-wide. And the entire family is involved in volunteering at our local food pantry and places like Matthew 25 Ministries. We are so blessed in our family that we feel we must give back.
And then, of course, there are our pets that the children really enjoy and help care for: Jake, Mama Girl, and Sophie, our dogs; Margay and Abe, our cats; and Henry, Ian's corn snake, and Ava and Noir, Ian's pet rats. And, of course, we have the various other creatures we "save" and rear in the spring and summer including Megan's many butterflies and moths and Ian's frogs and toads.
You can read more about the children and their activities by clicking on their individual pages Megan and Ian. You can read more about what our curriculum entails.
Our homeschool is definitely a place where teaching and learning are twice the fun!
