Our Curriculum  Page
For the 11-12 school year, we are using the eclectic approach, selecting the best of
the best to suit our children's learning styles  Here's what we are using...

For
Composition and Grammar, we are using Institute in Excellence in Writing
(IEW).as a way to learn how to compose written material.  There will be plenty of
writing opportunities not only with this course but also with their history and
science studies.  In addition, Megan will be using the
High School Writing
Intensive for learning to write for the SAT essay.

For
Vocabulary, we are using SAT Vocabulary for 10th grade and Vocabulary
Cartoons - SAT Word Power Volume II for 8th grade.

For
Reading/Literature I have customized a literature curriulum for each of the
kids using a variety of sources, making sure each child is reading classic literature
that appeals to each.

For
Math, we will be using Math-U-See's Algebra II for 10th grade and
Math-U-See's Algebra I for 8th grade.

For
History and Geography we are using and Bob Jones World History for grade
10th grade and
Alpha Omega U.S. History/Geography for 8th grade.

For Science, Megan will be taking Chemistry at our local community college for
10th grade and Ian will use
Apologia Physical Science  for 8th grade.

For
Foreign Language, Megan will be using we are using Memoria Press' Third
Form Latin and Henle I while Ian uses Rosetta Stone French

For Physical Education, the kids take Karate at Fit for the King in Madison, IN.
They take formal lessons twice a week for an hour+ each and they practice an hour
or so daily at home.

For high school this year, Megan will also be doing two electives:
Photography and
Psychology
each for 1 semester.

We will also be starting
Logic this year using The Fallacy Detective for 8th grade
and
Critical Thinking Book 1 for 10th grade.

In addition, both children will be studying for the PSAT using the SAT book from
college board.

We try to stick to the Charlotte Mason approach of keeping a certain amount of
flexibility in our schedule.  I provide the kids with their lesson plans and they have
the flexibility to decide how/when they want to do them - as long as they are
complete by week's end.  This gives them experience in proper planning and study
habits and allows them the time they need for their special interests.  Click here to

Extra Curricular Activities
As far as extra-curricular activities, we try to enroll the children in activities
that are of interest to them -- and try to keep things in moderation so as not to
overwhelm them (or us!)  You can see what their current extra-curricular
activities are by clicking on
Megan or Ian to see their pages.
