These study guides are designed to help students better understand and enjoy
literature by getting them to notice and understand how authors craft their stories and
to show them how to think through the themes and ideas introduced in the stories.
While daily lesson plans are not included, each study takes approximately 8-10 weeks
to complete along with reading the selected book. Each guide includes pre-reading
activities, story synopsis, background information, author biography, vocabulary,
comprehension questions, dig deeper conversation starters, Biblical references, and
detailed literary analysis, including discussion around plot, characters, conflict/
resolution, setting, tone, imagery, etc. Most study guides have an Overview section
at the end that can be used as a final test. Most also have final essays and
post-reading activities as well.
They have study guides for K-12 in book, CD, and teacher packs, ranging in price
from 11.99-25.99
Pros: What can I say? These are outstanding literature guides - everything a
literature guide should be. I could find nothing else on the market that remotely
compares to what Progeny Press has created. They are also working on adding new
titles all the time. You can email them with suggestions.
Cons: Even though they have a huge selection, they may not have some of the
classics and may not have any plans to add some of the ones you might like to see.
For example, Moby Dick is not one they plan to add.
