Copywork For Children
Overview
Charlotte Mason introduced us to the concept and value of copywork and advocated its use to help children not only to practice their penmanship, but also learn proper sentence structure, punctuation, new vocabulary, and grammar. Further, Dr. Ruth Beechick says that copywork is an old and proven method...Children learn to write by writing. The short, daily lessons provide day-to-day reinforcement of the qualities of good writing. This consumable Copywork for Children gets children started in this endeavor with lines right in the book so they don’t have to look back and forth from book to notebook to do their copywork. The specially selected poetry, famous quotes, verses from the Bible, and passages from quality literature focus on building their character and their appreciation for all God’s creations. Subjects like The Golden Rule, kindness, and perseverance are just a few of the topics covered in the 180+ lessons included here. While this is written for grades 1-3, it can be used by a 4th grader who has never before done copywork (as was the case in our family). The book starts out easy and gets progressively more challenging. And the "My Very Own Copywork" section at the end encourages children to copy their own selections that they find meaningful and worth of keeping. These copywork lessons have been a blessing in our homeschool, and I hope they will benefit yours as well.
