My First Holy Communion
Overview
The participation of children in receiving Holy Communion is at the discretion of parents who have the ultimate responsibility in the spiritual upbringing of their children. Parents may determine a child is ready for Holy Communion when the child expresses interest in it and has the ability to understand the importance of it as well as the reverence required to receive it. There are many books and resources for preparing the children in the Roman Catholic faith for receiving their first Holy Communion. However, after much research, this author could find nothing on the market that offered a non-denominational approach to such preparation. Since many Protestants do desire to formally prepare their children for this most important gift of our Lord Jesus Christ, I prayerfully set out to create such a program that encompasses everything children should understand about our Lord prior to their reception of Him during Communion. Through the Bible verses, lessons, and activities in this program, children will learn and understand that the Lord’s Supper is an act of remembrance, celebration, and wonderful anticipation of Jesus coming again. They will learn they must be reverent and of clean mind and heart to receive the Lord’s Supper. They will learn that Jesus is always with us in spirit and is ever present at His Supper. Above all, children will learn to receive Him with faith and devotion and thankfulness.
The activities in this program include memorizing Bible verses, quizzes, puzzles, color pages, and a road map to heaven that they work on after each lesson. All clipart - in full color - for the road map is included right in the book. There is also a bookmark that is a culmination of everything learned in the program to be used in the child's Bible. Children get excited about Communion with this program!
